Matt Bouch is an ultra trail runner and outdoor photographer from South Africa.

Landscape photography in the Drakensberg mountains is what first inspired my sense of adventure. Getting to the places I wanted involved a lot of hiking, and I started running (in part) as a way to stay fit for this.

I entered a few races, and naturally - as anyone who runs will attest to - I became intrigued by the process of going further and faster. At the same time, my interest photography was pushing me further from the beaten path, and deeper into the mountains to explore and capture the images I was after.

This website began as a purely photographic portfolio. It has since evolved, as a way to share my images, as well as my experiences, thoughts, and learnings on trail running, racing and adventure.

Through the images and stories I share, I hope to inspire your sense of adventure. Getting outside has had a profoundly positive impact on me, and I believe it can do the same for anyone else.

I am based in Cape Town, South Africa, where I train with Flat Rock Endurance. I am sponsored by HOKA ONE ONE and Ikhambi Distribution.

At the core of both trail running and photography, is a love for mountain landscapes. It’s in these spaces that I’m able to challenge myself on all fronts: physically, mentally and creatively. They offer me an escape unlike anything else.
